Andrea Pastorella

A description of Movita classes:

The young peoples classes are a fun energetic, multisensory learning experience that involves the body, mind and soul through creative movement, imagination and focus.

These classes are an introduction to the elements of dance through games and structured improvisation. We explore rhythm, space, shape, focus, balance, control, direction, quality of movement and emotional expression learning to use the body as a source for communication.

As the age range progresses the classes begin to incorporate simple but specific steps and movements using the elements in more sophisticated ways. Students will be learning simple technique which frees the access to movement and expression. It is important to me that the dancers are having fun, gaining confidence and progressing. These classes are not geared for performance but toward people getting to know themselves through dance. We will hold open classes at the end of the session for parents to come and see the progress of their dancer.

Teen classes: This is a fun, energetic and challenging class for teen dancers that have little or no exposure to American modern dance. We will become familiar with modern dance movement, we dance barefoot, no tutus no point shoes no pretense. Working in parallel strengthens the balance, alignment and placement of the human body. The floor is vital to modern dance and is used in many ways; we explore falls, rolls, jumps, twists, leaps, swings, crawls, turns and the use of weight, breath and expression in dance. Let’s dance!

Adult classes: Class begins with a 40 min. warm-up on the floor using Yoga, Pilates and dance exercises then progresses to a series of floor and standing movements that develop focus, rhythm, direction, line, control, timing, space and self expression. Even as adults we can be fully self expressed! This is meant to be fun and is an excellent work-out strengthening the core of your body, mind and soul.
